McDonald Garden Center offers year-round classes and hands-on workshops for kids and adults, with something for everyone. Group sessions cover varied horticulture topics and deliver practical, useful tips.

Greenhouse Planter Workshop for Kids

Watch your garden grow right from the start! In this hands-on workshop, kids will create their very own mini greenhouse using a 6-inch terracotta pot, matching saucer, and a recycled soda bottle dome to help protect and nurture new seedlings.

Participants will plant seeds during class and learn how greenhouses help plants sprout and grow. Once finished, each mini greenhouse can be taken home to continue the growing adventure, offering a fun way to observe plant life up close day by day.

Recommended for ages 3 and up. Parental assistance may be required. Cost is $15 and includes all supplies and instructions.

Pollinator Watering Station Workshop for Kids

Help out hardworking pollinators with a perfect place to take a rest! In this workshop, kids will transform a terracotta pot and tray into a colorful pollinator watering station. Using bright colors that butterflies, bees, and other pollinators love, participants can paint their watering station to resemble a whimsical mushroom or create their own unique design. This workshop is happening Saturday, August 8th at 11am, exclusively at our Independence Blvd. location.

Recommended for ages 3 and up. Parental assistance may be required. Cost is $15 and includes instructions and all supplies. Register in-store or online. Walk-ins are welcome while supplies last.

Make a Scarecrow

McDonald Garden Center is excited to announce the 30th annual Make a Scarecrow event! Join us, rain or shine, September 12-13, 2026 at 9am-4pm at our Independence Blvd. location. Bring the family to create your very own, custom, life-size scarecrow. Your purchase includes everything you need to make 1 scarecrow (stake, wheat straw, collection of clothes, and accessories), but feel free to bring your own accessories to personalize your scarecrow.

McDonald Garden Center, partnered with The King’s Daughters, the founding organization of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD), has raised more than $400,000 during this charitable event! Cost $30, includes instructions and all supplies. Proceeds from these scarecrows ($25) will benefit CHKD and support their efforts to improve children's health in our community. Come on out and have a great time supporting a great cause! Register online or in stores. Walk-ins are welcome, while supplies last.
